Tooth Removal

Knowing that nothing we put inside your mouth is as good as your natural teeth, dentistry has evolved to restore and maintain your teeth better than ever before. It is always advisable to try and keep your teeth rather than pulling them out as losing teeth will eventually lead to problems in appearance and function. However, sometimes due to trauma, extensive decay and gum diseases removing a tooth may be unavoidable. When it is necessary, we have expertise in removing teeth safely and painlessly.

Wisdom tooth extractions

Wisdom teeth often form in an unfavourable position and angle and can cause decay and/or gum problems. Often impacted wisdom teeth can cause discomfort in the gum that comes and goes with swelling. If untreated, this becomes a recurring problem and a significant infection is possible. In some cases, wisdom teeth can cause deep decay in the tooth adjacent, resulting in loss of additional chewing tooth. At Prestige Dental, we can carry out most of the wisdom tooth extractions. The extraction procedures are painless although there may be some discomfort following the surgery.

What happens after extractions?

Once a tooth is removed (excluding wisdom teeth), it is advisable to consider a replacement option. When a tooth is removed the opposing tooth can become non-functional, which means your biting force is unfavourably distributed to rest of the teeth. This eventually can lead to further issues with chewing, and as you lose more teeth your smile will be affected also. Although the replacement does not need to be done immediately after a removal, sometimes leaving the gap for long time can result in shifting of teeth positions and result in loss of space for a replacement. Replacing a missing tooth can be done by plates, bridges or implant restorations.
